Git, GitHub, build pipelines & application checks
A maintainable codebase needs more than working source files. Version history, dependency management, repeatable builds, and checks around important behavior help a team understand what changed and what is ready to deliver.
Build and quality tools serve different purposes. A package manager records dependencies, a bundler creates browser assets, and a test checks a defined expectation. Understanding those roles helps choose the right evidence for the change being made.
Use version history and reviewable changes to share context, manage parallel work, and understand earlier decisions.
Work with the dependency versions and asset process a project already uses, with proportionate upgrades when needed.
Check the request, application behavior, or email output affected by a change, rather than relying on a build alone.
Git records source changes; GitHub provides repository hosting and collaboration features such as pull requests. Clear diffs and useful descriptions help reviewers understand scope.
npm manages JavaScript packages and project scripts; Composer manages PHP dependencies and autoloading. Lockfiles help make installations reproducible. Runtime compatibility and the effect on consuming code matter when updating dependencies.
Webpack bundles modules and processes assets through project configuration. Entry points, loaders, and output paths explain how source becomes a browser file. I trace that pipeline before changing a generated asset or assuming a source edit has reached the page.
Babel transforms JavaScript according to configured targets; Sass compiles stylesheet source into CSS. Their behavior depends on the project configuration and versions. Maintaining an established pipeline includes understanding those choices and the browsers it needs to support.
Postman supports sending requests and checking responses. A useful API check records the relevant input, response, and expected behavior. When persistence matters, the response should be considered alongside the resulting application or data state where access is available.
PHPUnit provides a framework for testing PHP behavior. Tests are most useful when they express meaningful expectations and cover the risk introduced by a change. They need appropriate fixtures and should be reviewed alongside the application code.
MailHog can capture email in a development environment for inspection without using a real recipient’s inbox. That helps review content and application output. It does not by itself verify production delivery, provider authentication, or inbox placement.
I use the existing build scripts and choose checks for the behavior being changed: a production build, an API request, a targeted test, or an email preview. Review and handoff explain what changed and what was checked.

The maintained theme and listing modules use Composer, npm, Webpack, Babel, and Sass. My work operates within that existing build environment and the FINNPartners-credited base framework.
