Technology in practice

E-commerce.

WooCommerce, Shopify, WordPress & custom PHP

A storefront is one part of an e-commerce business. Product information, purchasing workflows, platform extensions, and operational systems all need to fit together. I approach commerce development with that wider context in mind.

The business context

Commerce that works beyond the product page.

A change to the storefront can affect much more than appearance. The application needs to preserve the business rules and platform behavior behind the customer journey, while remaining practical for the team operating and maintaining it.

The layers of the stack

The tools and how I use them.

WooCommerceWordPress-based commerce

WooCommerce

WooCommerce adds commerce functionality to WordPress. Its extension points allow storefront and business behavior to be customized. I bring extensive hands-on experience in development, customization, troubleshooting, and maintenance, with attention to how custom code interacts with the surrounding platform.

ShopifyHosted commerce platform

Shopify

Shopify provides a hosted commerce foundation with tools for storefront customization and integrations. The right implementation depends on the platform’s supported extension points and the business requirements. I consider what should stay within the platform and what belongs in a connected application.

WordPressCommerce and content together

WordPress

A commerce website may also depend on editorial pages, product education, and reusable content. WordPress can provide that publishing layer alongside WooCommerce or other connected systems. Theme behavior and content editing need to remain coherent with the storefront experience.

PHPBusiness-specific behavior

Custom PHP

Custom PHP can support application logic and functionality that is specific to the business. The important decisions concern ownership and boundaries: which system holds information, which component applies a rule, and how a change is checked across the affected workflow.

Integrations & operations

Commerce systems exchange information with other applications and depend on hosting and operational support. Integration behavior needs clear inputs, predictable responses, and useful failure handling. I investigate those connections alongside application code when a business workflow stops behaving as expected.

My approach

Understand the business flow before extending the platform.

I follow the customer action through the platform and connected systems before changing it. That establishes where the business rule belongs and what needs checking across the purchase or operational workflow.
