Project overview.
Easy Breathe brought together the challenges of running an e-commerce business and maintaining the software behind it. The technical scope spanned custom PHP applications, hosted commerce, WordPress-based platforms, and the infrastructure supporting those systems.
As Lead Technical Architect, I combined architecture and development with infrastructure support and technical team delivery. That meant working across the application and operational layers, with attention to how individual development decisions affected the wider business platform.
Making different platforms work within one business.
Custom applications, Shopify, and WooCommerce each bring different extension points and operational responsibilities. Supporting a business across those platforms calls for a clear understanding of where functionality belongs, what can be configured, and where custom development is appropriate.
The role also extended beyond the storefront. Application work needed to be considered alongside hosting, performance, security practices, maintenance, and the ability of a technical team to deliver and support changes. The engineering challenge was to address those concerns together without losing sight of the day-to-day needs of the business.
My contribution.
Cybersecurity across Cloudflare, Wordfence, and AWS
Performed substantial cybersecurity work across Cloudflare, Wordfence, and AWS. This included configuring Wordfence for the WordPress environment alongside security work in the cloud and delivery layers. Security was part of my hands-on technical responsibility as well as the wider architecture role.
Architecture grounded in platform capabilities
Led architecture across custom PHP, Shopify, WooCommerce, and WordPress systems. Working with both custom software and established platforms required understanding their boundaries and shaping development around the strengths and constraints of each. The scope combined application architecture with practical implementation, rather than treating architecture as a separate handoff.
Hands-on commerce and web development
Contributed development across the commerce and content platforms, bringing PHP and WordPress experience to a broader e-commerce environment. The work involved supporting existing systems as well as developing functionality, with a focus on maintaining a coherent technical foundation as business requirements evolved.
Infrastructure as part of the application
Designed and supported AWS infrastructure alongside the software it hosted. Performance and security practices formed part of that responsibility. This connected application decisions with the environment in which the systems operated and kept operational support within the architectural remit.
Technical leadership with implementation depth
Supported technical team delivery while remaining involved in the systems themselves. The role brought together architecture, hands-on development, and operational knowledge so that technical direction could be informed by the practical realities of building and maintaining the platform.
